Anxiety, Stress & Emotional Regulation
When Worry, Fear, or Stress Begins to Control Everyday Life
Anxiety and stress are normal human responses. They become a concern when they become excessive, persistent, difficult to control, or begin to interfere with learning, work, relationships, sleep, decision-making, behavior, or everyday functioning.
At DSC, we do not simply ask how anxious a person feels.
We explore the pattern behind the anxiety:
What triggers it?
How does the person interpret situations?
How do thoughts, emotions, body responses, and behavior interact?
What coping strategies are being used?
What maintains the difficulty?
And what strengths can support recovery?
Support may address:
- Excessive worry and fear
- Panic-related symptoms
- Stress and emotional overload
- Avoidance and maladaptive coping
- Emotional regulation
- Relaxation and self-regulation skills
- Cognitive and behavioral patterns
- Social and performance-related anxiety
- Stress related to family, education, work, or major life changes
Strategies are individualized according to age, developmental level, psychological profile, circumstances, and goals.
Mindfulness, breathing, relaxation, coping skills, behavioral strategies, psychological interventions, and other appropriate approaches may be incorporated when indicated.
The DSC Difference
We do not teach people simply to “stop worrying.”
We help them understand the cycle of anxiety and develop healthier ways to regulate, cope, respond, and function.
Understand → Regulate → Develop Coping Skills → Restore Functioning → Build Resilience
