Behavior Modification & Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Understand the behavior first — then work toward meaningful change.
At DSC, we view behavior as a meaningful outcome of the interaction between the individual and their environment—not simply as something that needs to be stopped or suppressed.
Our approach begins with understanding the behavior, identifying the factors associated with its occurrence and maintenance, and then developing individualized, measurable goals that help the person acquire functional, adaptive, and independent skills.
What Do We Provide?
Our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Behavior Modification services may include:
- Behavioral assessment and identification of target behaviors.
- Functional understanding and analysis of behaviors and the factors that precede and follow them.
- Development of communication and social interaction skills.
- Development of adaptive, daily living, and independent skills.
- Addressing behaviors that interfere with learning, communication, or participation.
- Structured programs for teaching new and functional skills.
- Parent and caregiver training and coaching.
- Ongoing data collection, progress monitoring, and adjustment of intervention plans.
How Do We Work at DSC?
We do not apply a one-size-fits-all program.
We begin by understanding the individual, their abilities, strengths, needs, environment, and priorities, and then identify appropriate behavioral goals and intervention strategies.
When appropriate, ABA principles may be integrated with other dimensions of an individualized, multidisciplinary plan, including communication and language, education and learning, psychological and emotional development, social skills, sensory needs, and other developmental needs.
Our goal is not simply to reduce challenging behavior. It is to help the individual develop more effective and functional alternatives, improve learning and communication, increase independence, and participate more successfully in everyday life.
