Supporting Families to Help Their Child Grow, Learn, and Become More Independent

Because the Family Is the Closest and Most Powerful Partner in a Child’s Development

In 2014, Dr. Radwan AbuSaif and Dr. Arwa Alhejoj founded the Family Program for supporting children with special needs, based on a fundamental principle:

Intervention cannot succeed if it remains inside the specialist’s room. A child lives, learns, communicates, and develops within the family and everyday environment.

Therefore, we do not simply give families instructions or a ready-made program. We empower families to understand their child, recognize their needs, apply precise intervention strategies, measure progress, and adapt those strategies according to the child’s response and development.

A Program That Adapts to Every Individual

There is no single strategy that works for every child or every disability.

We begin by understanding the child’s abilities, needs, developmental and functional profile, communication, sensory, educational, and behavioral characteristics, together with the family and environmental context.

Based on this understanding, strategies are individually designed and continuously adapted.

Depending on the child’s needs, families learn how to:

  • .Ability & Needs MapUnderstand their child’s abilities and needs and build an
  • Understand the possible causes and functions of behavior and teach appropriate alternatives.
  • Support communication, language, and social interaction.
  • Develop attention, learning, and executive-function skills.
  • Support emotional, sensory, and behavioral regulation.
  • Develop motor, fine-motor, self-care, and daily-living skills.
  • Turn everyday activities into natural opportunities for learning.
  • Use prompting, reinforcement, and gradual skill development appropriately—then fade support to build independence.
  • Generalize skills from home to school and the community.
  • Set clear, measurable goals and monitor progress.
  • Recognize when and why an intervention strategy needs to change.

The Family Is a Partner in Intervention—Not a Substitute Therapist

We do not place the responsibility for treating the child on the family, nor do we expect parents to become therapists.

Instead, we help families become more informed, skilled, confident, and effective partners within a multidisciplinary support team through education, guidance, practical training, and ongoing collaboration with specialists according to the individual’s needs.

Family support may be integrated with:

Multidimensional Assessment & Diagnosis • Special Education & Educational Intervention • Speech & Language Support • Psychological & Developmental Support • Behavior Modification & ABA when appropriate • Sensory Support • Physical & Occupational Therapy • Social & Independence Skills • Caregiver Training • Follow-up & Progress Monitoring

The DSC Philosophy

We do not train families to follow a fixed program. We train them to understand their child and make informed decisions about how to support them.

Strategies evolve as the child develops and are guided by outcomes:

Understanding → Application → Measurement → Adjustment → Generalization → Greater Independence

Since the program was launched in 2014, its central principle has remained:

When we empower the family, we do not support the child in a single session—we build a continuous environment around the child that promotes learning, development, participation, and independence.
