Trauma, Loss & Psychological Recovery
Healing Begins When the Experience Is Understood—not Ignored
Traumatic experiences, significant loss, violence, abuse, accidents, displacement, major life changes, or prolonged psychological stress can affect the way a person feels, thinks, remembers, behaves, relates to others, and experiences safety.
People do not respond to trauma in the same way.
At DSC, we therefore avoid a one-size-fits-all approach.
We seek to understand:
- The nature and impact of the experience
- Emotional and physiological responses
- Avoidance, fear, hyperarousal, or withdrawal
- Changes in sleep, concentration, behavior, and relationships
- Coping and adaptation
- Available social and family support
- Protective factors and personal strengths
- The individual's current level of functioning and safety
The goal is not to force someone to repeatedly relive painful experiences.
It is to provide an individualized, psychologically informed pathway toward safety, regulation, adaptation, recovery, and restored functioning, with appropriate referral when specialized or urgent care is required.
The DSC Difference
We do not define people by what happened to them.
We help them understand its impact, strengthen their resources, and move toward recovery at an appropriate and respectful pace.
Safety → Understanding → Regulation → Recovery → Reconnection → Growth
